The big talk at school today was the arrival of 44 beauty contestants on Mahe! Some of the sixth form lads were getting quite excited. I thought they said that it was the Miss Incontinent contest, which I thought would be very forward thinking, but it turns out the contest is called Miss Intercontinental. Miss Seychelles (pop. 80,000) is up against the likes of Miss China (pop. 6,000,000,000). Hardly seems fair! Anyway, I will let you know how it turns out.

The Sky at Night
Here's Lisa checking out tonight's sky. Looking north from our balcony over the Indian Ocean.

Anse Major
The girls wanted to chill out at home today, so I went for a walk along the coast to a beach called Anse Major. It was a warm day but there was plenty of shade and it was only a couple of miles from the end of the road round to the beach.
The path snaked it's way across a few of these huge rock slabs. They are all over the place in the Seychelles. No doubt a relic of Seychelles volcanic origins.
As I came round the corner the beach came into view. It looks like a little cracker.
A very refreshing dip, and apparently some great snorkelling, if I'd remembered to bring the snorkelling gear (dho!) Lots of cool coral was wahsing up on the beach. I did a bit of beachcombing, had another swim and then headed back.
You can just see where we live in the far distance.
This little fella was on the fridge when I got back.
I dished out the ice-creams that I had been ordered to return with and settled down to listen to some of the Premiership scores coming in on the World Service. Later on we listened to Pompey beating Fulham. What has happened to Benjani? He can't stop scoring. Anyway, what a great start to the season for Pompey. I wonder if the Coalie did as well this weekend?

Rugby!
What a night! Beer, pizza and England beating Australia in the Rugby World Cup. Even better than that....we were surrounded by an over confident swarm of Aussie teachers. Fantastic!
Bring on the Frogs (what a result that was to beat the All Blacks.)
Bring on the Frogs (what a result that was to beat the All Blacks.)The French School is just along the road from our school in Victoria. Apparently, they have been showing the rugby on a big screen. So, maybe that should be the venue for the semi-final.

Parking Ticket!
It seems that they even have Traffic Wardens in paradise! I got a ticket for parking on the pavement outside our local shop, where everyone always parks on the pavement so that other cars can get past. Apparently if I'd been on the road blocking the place up I wouldn't have got a ticket.
To recover from the shock of my first (ever!) parking ticket, we hit the beach and had a couple of beers in the Al Mare...
Fri am update : I took my 200Rupees (about 10 quid) to the courthouse this morning to pay my parking ticket. A very grumpy cashier took my money, stamped about a dozen forms, and gave me three receipts. They love their paperwork here.

Ghekkos
Usually the ghekkos that crawl about on the ceilings and walls in our house are pretty static. But tonight the ants were flying and the ghekkos were taking advantage and stuffing themselves.See the video here....
