This weekend me and Jez are attempting to cycle from Bideford on the North coast of Devon to Plymouth on the South coast. Setting off in Bideford...
The route takes us along National Cycle Route 27, stopping in Okehampton for the night and to Plymouth on sunday. Total miles over the two days is about 70 miles...
SATURDAY : Our route starts on the Tarka Trail. An old railway branch line. Nice and flat...
And through a few tunnels..
The Yarde Cafe. Eco-organic-hippy cafe. Ginger beer and cakes...
We stopped in Sheepwash for lunch. Then we had to work out which way to go next...
Great views over the Devon countryside, and steep hills!
Saturday night stop was in Okehampton at the White Hart Hotel...
We had a few pints of local beer in Okehampton. Very nice too...
SUNDAY : Out on the trail again. Here we are on our way across the Meldon Viaduct, part of the Granite Way, another old branch line turned cycle path...
A welcome pint at the Castle Inn in Lydford...
That's me on yet another viaduct. They built them solid in those days...
We took a 'shortcut' across Dartmoor. Got a bit lost and ended up climbing over a fence back onto the road ('never go out on them moors'...)
We met Jon Burgess on his super fast road bike in Yelverton. He joined us for the ride down into Plymouth...
One of the viaducts of the Plym Valley Trail on the way down into Plymouth...
We made it!!! Me, Jon and Jez in Plymouth...
